Quick answer

One log for every dividend, from every broker — with the split HMRC actually cares about. This free Google Sheets template records each payment as gross, withholding and net, tags it ISA or GIA, and keeps a live running total of your general-account dividends against the £500 allowance — so the tax position is never a year-end surprise. No email required.

Why log dividends at all

Because the numbers your broker shows and the numbers HMRC needs are not the same numbers. Apps show net amounts, mix wrappers into one feed, and rarely total by UK tax year. Come January, the questions are specific: how much dividend income outside wrappers, in which tax year, and how much of the £500 allowance is left. A ledger you fill in as payments land answers all three in seconds — and doubles as your evidence trail.

Pair it with the numbers side: our free dividend tax calculator turns your GIA total into the actual 2026/27 tax figure (the rates rose two points this April — 10.75% basic, 35.75% higher). The fuller context lives in our Trading 212 tax guide and eToro tax guide, and the raw data comes from your broker exports — exact clicks in the UK broker export cheat-sheet.

About this resource

  1. Tax figures reflect the 2026/27 UK tax year (dividend allowance £500); the template’s tax-year logic follows the 6 April boundary. Refreshed each April.
  2. The template records and totals — it does not compute your tax bill (that’s the calculator’s job) and does not constitute tax advice. Capital at risk.
Does the template compute my dividend tax?

No — by design. It records and totals: per payment, per account type, per tax year, with your remaining £500 allowance always visible. For the actual bill at the 2026/27 rates, feed your GIA total into our free dividend tax calculator — the two are built to work together.

Can I use it for accumulation funds?

Yes — accumulation funds still generate taxable “distributions” you never see as cash. Log them from your broker’s or fund’s statements like any other row; the ISA/GIA tag keeps the taxable ones separate.

Is it really free?

Yes — the button makes your own private Google Sheets copy (or grab the Excel file). No email, no signup, nothing shared back with us.

Is it UK-specific?

The ledger works anywhere, but the tax-year boundaries (6 April) and the £500 allowance tracking are UK — that’s the part generic templates get wrong.
